If you get a smart meter - can the external gas and internal electrical meters be removed?

They look pretty much the same, just more electronic.

nope they just add or change the meters you still need both

Apparently they belong to the national grid.
My meters are off since I got my smart meter, if I could remove my gas meter I could have a under stairs loo, but can’t remove it as it belongs to the national grid.

I wouldn't have thought so. We have a smart meter, but it basically is just a display device which receives information digitally from the external meter box.
