Vinyl flooring on bathroom walls/shower cubicle

Good old MN searches...
Several years ago @ghostinthecanvas reported on putting vinyl flooring in their shower.

We are currently planning our bathroom but don't want tiles. The splashback/PVC sheets are expensive and I wondered if vinyl would work instead?

Will it look naf? Will it last/peel? Will it keep walls waterproofed inside a shower cubicle?

If you've done something similar, can you share pictures thanks?

What about aqua panels or whatever the different brands call them instead? They are designed to be used instead of tiles on walls in bathrooms.
