Who/when arranges structural survey?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but when huying a house, who and when finds and appoints a structural survey on the property? Thank you!

You do, after viewing and having a mortgage agreed in principle on a house you are wanting to put an offer in on.

Usually do this straight after making an offer and having it accepted. Mortgage company and estate agent will usually have surveyors they recommend but that's because they get a kick back so find your own for a better deal.

You do after your offer is accepted, but only if you want one. We just bought a house and did home buyers report. It turned out to be a long detailed document, covered all aspects, I was very impressed.
