Decorating quote

Just received a quote to paint one small living room, paint wrap going up the stairs and the wood staircase (there’s only three small sections although there are spindles)

Total cost I’ve been quoted is over £6k! If we want windows included it’s just over £7k.

We’re in the South East and it’s with standard paint but this price seems ridiculously high.

What are your thoughts?

Yes that it's mad expensive I'd want the whole house doing for that . I'd move on and get someone else to quote.

He doesn't want the job and is quoting a ludicrous figure to put you off.

I just had a massive hall, stairs and galleried landing done with 12 door architraves, all spindles, stair treads, walls and ceilings, in Farrow & Ball paint, for £1,500.

Don’t pay that! CF

We paid £500 a room including paint and materials (south east, Victorian house, large rooms

We paid £1700 for wallpering and painting our hall. That included prepping and painting the woodwork, including bannisers and skirting. Stripping and lining the walls then papering. It's a large area, with stairs going up to the loft. Price included paint, but not the wallpaper. Also in the SE. This was 4 years ago.

Thanks for all your responses so far! I did think it was much, much more than I’d been expecting! Going to get some more quotes for sure!

Quote I had for whole house, removal of wallpaper, plastering, painting and woodwork was £8,000.

Have had just the wallpaper removal and plastering done for just shy of £3600... (2 bedrooms, hallway w stairs, living room and dining room). We are in SE London, zone 4....
