What colour should I paint my kitchen?

Recently moved into our new home and have inherited a newish kitchen, which, although it’s not really my taste, is very practical and worth keeping whilst the DC are young and prone to destroying everything. But I would like to paint the walls and give it a bit more personality - at the moment the flooring is wooden floorboards, with wood style worktops and cream gloss cupboards, the walls are white and it’s all very dull. All our appliances are sage green - they’re quite new and were wedding presents so we can’t change those and need to find a colour that suits both the kitchen and the appliances. I’m not afraid of colour at all, I love bright colourful rooms, but I’m not good at knowing what colours work well together. so would really appreciate anyone’s advice on this.

No grey please Grin

How about a lavender or a rose shade. Either as muted or bright as you dare! Either of those would tone in well with what you describe. It all sounds pretty nutral so I think most colours would work. Sounds like you need a massive tester pot session ☺🎨

Personally I'd go with a darker or lighter shade of green.

My kitchen is vert de terre which would probably work nicely with yours, but with your safe appliances I would perhaps go a bit lighter and more muted like Mizzle or Cromarty (all F&B colours).

Spanglybangles · 08/01/2019 13:50

Think Cromarty would be nicest out if the three.

Don’t think those would go with sage

Or pink!

Yellow. Definitely.

A proper navy or dark blue/grey (def not teal) could actually work nicely with sage.

A soft pink (think natural plaster colour) would be pretty

Bit of a punt but an aubergine shade could be good (again a soft, faded/greyed version rather than bright purple)

Mustard yellow - but may not work with the wood look stuff, depends on exact shades working together

Or an olive green

What about a warm bronze colour? Would lovely. Otherwise a dark green?

TheMincePiesAreMine · 08/01/2019 18:59

I like the rose suggestion.

Would wallpaper be an option? Eg a big print with leaves in different greens and some brighter birds or something, and pick out one of the other colours in it to paint any bits you don't paper

PickAChew · 08/01/2019 19:02

Mustard looks lovely with sage.
