Painting a sandstone/limestone fireplace surround

Has anyone done this? If so, what kind of primer and paint did you use?

I'm buying a house with this fireplace in, and while I love the shape I don't like the beigy colour and it's won't go with my colour scheme.

I painted my wooded fire surround very successfully not haven't got any experience of painting stone! I'm not exactly sure what kind of stone it is unfortunately.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Er!!! Don’t do it.

If you must, maybe have a wooden cover made and paint that. Why won't such a neutral colour go with your chosen colour scheme?

We have lots of dark oak in our house and while it wouldn't be my first choice, it is absolutely right for an Edwardian arts and crafts house.

Not by me! But I'll look it up, thanks
