Housing gas boiler outside

Hi there, I noticed that there was a conversation about housing a gas boiler outside. I was wondering if anyone actually did this and how did you go about it?
Thanks

Oil boilers are more common outside than gas boilers. They can be put in a housing unit like this:

Gas boilers tend to need better insulation etc. I have seen some in actual brick outhouses. Have you seen this website?

Thank you for this, it is really helpful. I will check out those websites.
I have heard about people building outhouses for them and was wondering what the requirements are for the actual building?

I'm not sure that there are official requirements. I think the requirements are more common sense if anything, eg proper insulation so pipes don't freeze, making sure it is secure, not in an position where it may become flooded, easy access, etc. It may be more expensive to run in winter as I believe they have a function which automatically turns the boiler on if the temperature falls below a certain level. The link may explain it better than me.

Our boiler is in understairs cupboard, but the door to it is external to the house. It's a nightmare and completely froze up last year! Make sure you've got it well insulated

Our's is outside! We've got a row of brick "cupboards" outside our house backing onto kitchen wall. It's all a bit elderly but it works

Thank you. The British Gas engineer said that he had seen some housed outside. It would be in keeping with what you said MsMamaNature about it being common sense. Ideally it would be great to get a builder who has successfully done it before and knows what they are doing. I’m interested to hear that yours works Pennina did you have the cupboard purpose built? I’m sorry to hear that you had so much trouble with yours Amicompleteltinsane and want to avoid the nightmare you experienced. Thank you all for your help. You have given me plenty to think about.
