Hi just looking for some practical advice please

Offer accepted on a current vacant possession. House is still relatively "new"eg less than 15 years old

Second viewing yesterday and could smell gas. Told EA who called owner, he got am engineer out and i was called later that day to confirm yes a gas leak is detected, it's been temp fixed and the engineer will be in during the week to properly fix this

Question is what are my next steps to ensure this has been done correctly? Should I instruct my solicitor to get a copy of the latest service docs or whatever was completed by the engineer?

Any advice appreciated

Yes ask for a copy

Any future problems within a reasonable time frame can be attributed to the gas engineer
Or ask for a safety check

I'm not sure if they specifically check for leaks but a good place to start would be a Gas Safety Certificate by a Gas Safe registered engineer. They're pretty cheap to get done if you needed to pay for it yourself. Would pick up any issues with venting of flues etc.

Thanks for the replies I will definately be getting a gas safety check done now!
