Looking for advice on which type of paint to buy

Completely redecorating soon and while I have no problem choosing colours I'm a little stuck on what paint brand/finish to go for. For example, I used a Valspar matt paint recently in a deep red colour and it took 5 coats to get a good finish! Hoping to lessen the workload with a better paint. On the other hand the Valspar whitish silk paint I used went on really well.

What are your recommendations? Emulsion only - I already have a favourite paint for wood.

Deep colours often need more coats for good coverage because of the pigments used.

I always use Dulux - and get on really well with it

Oh, personally I love little Greene paint but have never used a deep shade.

I always use either crown or dulux trade matt white , it's thicker than regular and does on much smoother , not cheap but great results .

Never used valspar but I've not heard of good reviews either

Dulux does go on better - I'm usually the first to go own brand but with paint it does differ. Keep an eye out for sales as you can get good deals

I would definitely recommend Little Greene or Mylands. Mylands marble matt emulsion is fantastic quality paint - I used a dark colour recently and it only needed one coat!

I've also been using dulux trade and there's no comparison - Mylands is so much better. I've come to the conclusion that it's worth paying more for better quality because you need fewer coats and its less work Grin

I've used Dulux before and found it good so maybe that's what I should go with. Any thoughts on types/finish? I read on MN recently that silk paint is now considered very dated, which is a shame because our house is dark with small windows and we need as much light to bounce around as possible.

Yy Mylands, I bloomin love this brand am always banging on about on paint threads.
If looking to spend less money then Dulux, Johnson’s or Albany I can’t get on with crown it feels very watery.

Unfortunately Mylands is a budget buster for me. Looks lovely though.

Choose a lovely colour and get Johnstone to mix it for you 😁
