Crittall doors

I’d like to strip back some Crittall doors to the bare metal and leave them like it. Does anyone know the best way to do this and what colour metal will I find? Any ideas please?

They're steel, so they'll be a steely gray. For about 24 hours when they will start to go an orangey rust colour which will get darker until they fall apart.

Is that spoken from experience veni 😄

No, but any untreated steel will rust. You could possibly apply a clearcoat but you'd need to speak to a paint supplier about tat.

Have you considered painting them a dark matt grey? That would look nice. (or shade close to plain metal, metallic silver even?)

We took our to a local firm for shot blasting and powder coating.

sorrelforbes would you mind telling me how much that cost? I’m not sure what powder coating means, what finish has that left? I guess painting them could be an answer, I’m just intrigued as to what is under the paint!

Dark grey/silver metal is under the paint. Unless protected, it will rust.

Just to clarify the doors are internal. Will they still rust if untreated?

Yes. More slowly, perhaps, but they will still be exposed to oxygen and moisture.

OP, it cost about £200 to have it cleaned, galvanised and powder coated. I don't know a lot about the process I'm afraid but it's a paint type finish. We use our doors as part of a shower cubicle so it had ti stand up to getting wet every day.
