Removing a piece of wooden trim that's been glued & pinned?

I'd like to remove a piece of decorative wooden trim on a hallway bench that was fixed by wood glue & pins. Am I going to be able to get it off with a hammer & chisel? It says on the wood glue bottle that it bonds stronger than the wood itself. How much tearing do you think would be involved? Is it likely that it wouldn't come off at all? I want a different trim now as fashions have changed. The bench would be painted after.
