Is Penzance nice as a place to live?

Yes.
Depending on what you're looking for.
It's a long way from everywhere and career opportunities are limited.
But it is surrounded by sea, beaches, coastline. There is quite a good arts scene and enough going on in terms of bars, restaurants, takeaways. Shopping isn't great but you can drive or take a train to Try to Truro in 30-45mins.
There are some gems which make it amazing - the Jubilee Pool, the Minack Theatre, the Scilly Isles. Morrab Gardens and Penlee Park are right in the centre and are lovely green spaces.
There is a lot of rain but some of the warmest weather in the UK too.
The coastline nearby is stunning. Mounts Bay is great for kite surfing/ wind surfing/ paddle boarding...

It depends, are you a pirate?

austenozzy · 07/12/2018 23:20

It’s alright, but other towns of similar size in Cornwall are nicer. Depends what you’re after, it’s a very open question! It’s very remote and not many big firms down that way. Again, don’t know what you need in that respect.

ASB and public order offences have increased, as have drugs offences. Again, this is relative to other places in Cornwall, and I’ve no idea where you’re coming from so I don’t know whether it will be an issue for you.

We’re near Falmouth and love it. I wouldn’t move down to Pz, or any other parts of cornwall for that matter, as we have everything we want here.

Give us a bit more info and we might be able to give better answers! Smile

Smile Or, from another perspective, everything is a long way from PZ. Wink

I don’t know your timescale, but I’d advise you to visit in high season with your house-buyer hat on before deciding. It can become very congested, parking and traffic in and around P a real pain

Absolutely not.

From someone who grew up there.

RhubarbTea · 09/12/2018 12:57

No. Also from someone who grew up there. It is very poverty stricken, there is a bohemian/new age community there but that is dwarfed by the poverty which means the area has it's problems. There are nice roads of course but it's the town as a whole that is the issue.

And that's before you start thinking about the fact it's miles from anywhere and gets overrun by tourists in the summer. I mean, all of Cornwall does to an extent but PZ is pretty bad because it's the gateway to Mousehole, Lands End, Porthcurno, The Scilly Isles etc etc. If I was ever lucky enough to be able to afford property anywhere in Cornwall (unlikely) I would not choose to live in Penzance.
