Drawing floor plans

Can anyone suggest an app or the easiest way to draw up plans for internal layouts.
A builder suggested just doing it on a iPhone, not sure how he did it.

I have always hand drawn stuff, usually just walls and then used tracing paper to over lay ideas or cut out pieces of paper the size of furniture or kitchen units to move things around.

I use 5cm on the paper to 1m in real life. So 1cm on paper is 20cm in real life.

I did a kitchen extension this way, which included all plug sockets, light switch locations, and lights.

There's a lady on Houzz who dies then for people . Can't think of her name

FrogFairy · 07/12/2018 21:03

I think Humpty means @OnePlanOnHouzz.

Thank you both.
We have purchased a fixer upper and need to start thinking of layouts to change each room around. We will be doing the tracing paper drawings over the weekend but thought maybe there's was a way of using an app or free software.
I looked at sketchup but it is too time consuming to learn, I want something simple and straightforward.

You could try downloading sweet home 3d. It is free. I use it on a computer, not sure if it would work on a mobile. Really easy to use and shows you the plans and a 3d picture of it all.

Squizzard · 07/12/2018 21:27

Much, much easier than sketchup.

I can help do them but there are apps that you literally place against a wall and it takes the measurements and draws the plan such as RoomScan

mum2015 · 08/12/2018 07:38

I have used IKEA 3D kitchen planner for extension plans.

Thanks for all your replies. I will try roomscan first then use paper, pencil and tracing paper. Some software seems all too complicated and I only have an iPad no PC.
