I'm not familiar with Horwich but Chorley has a catch phrase - the place where people go to fight. It is rather big though

rosslyngal · 07/12/2018 16:21

Oh dear that's not good, I know chorley has a higher population but the house we're looking at seems to be in a quieter area

Chorley doesn't have a problem with fighting or anti social stuff any more than any other northern or southern town.

rosslyngal · 07/12/2018 16:29

Thanks for that, I'm swaying towards Chorley but panicking that we make the wrong choice xox

Chorley is nicer, especially some of the villages on the outskirts

LorelaiGilmore1 · 07/12/2018 16:42

What part of Chorley is the house you have seen?

rosslyngal · 07/12/2018 16:44

Not sure which part but it's near St Gregory RC primary school

Some of the villages around Chorley are beautiful! Horwich is just about to have a major housing development built which I think would make the roads there a nightmare. Both places are nice though x

rosslyngal · 07/12/2018 16:48

Yes we were/are looking at one of the new developments there in horwich
Also an older one in Chorley

Chorley is a great location for commuting north and south, has many outstanding primary and some secondary schools and is on the edge of some beautiful countryside. Whilst the town centre is a little tired, there are some brilliant independent retailers, bars and cafes, a thriving local theatre with an excellent comedy club. There's a Booths (apparently a mark of a 'desirable' place to live on MumsnetGrin and an M&S food and cinema are being built, due to open 2019. There are numerous stunning country and town parks, and there's an active events calendar with loads of family-friendly things taking place all year round.

If you want a friendly, accessible place to live, with great schools, decently priced property and a strong sense of community, Chorley (including surrounding villages is a good choice. Good luck with your move!

Near st greggs - so weldbank / Carr lane area ?

NC4Now · 08/12/2018 08:24

This may not fit your requirements but if you’re relocating to that area, have you looked at South Ribble? It was recently the best place to live in the uk based on housing, schools, transport links etc.
And of course Boorhs!

rosslyngal · 08/12/2018 08:35

Yes
