I hate my builder

With a passion. We've been having work done since April. Different builder at first and he was a dick so we got new ones to do our kitchen renovation. The kitchen stuff got done lovely and I recommended him to everyone, thought he was the dogs boll*s.. so asked him and the gang to stay on and do the loft conversion. They are taking a fucking age to finish it.. he fucked off to Thailand for a few weeks and left his dick head minions to sit around and do jack shit for two weeks when I thought we would have been finished. Latest saga is the walls we painted got covered in spray foam which he thought was really funny... dents in the new plastered walls and marks all over our new oak fire doors. they just don't give a flying fuck about any of our stuff anymore. I invested in a really nice cutlery set for our new kitchen and one of the builders/plasterers or roofers took one of the forks and never brought it back. Builder again thinks it funny.. its MY STUFF LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE..

My nerves are shot.. seriously I feel sick all the time. I just want them out of my house so I can get on with xmas and try and finish the house. I'm so over it now. Currently in a battle with him over these stupid door trims they put around the doors so thick that last night we couldn't even open the fucking internal doors without smashing our hands. I mean I ask you how fucking stupid can you be. I asked building control and they don't need to be that thick for a fire door anymore so basically he ripped out what we had, stuck on pieces of shit and now he is trying to charge us extra to give us custom ones like what we had before. I want to punch him in the face. He is a smug arsehole. Sorry just needed to rant.

you need to either sit down and discuss what is happening or sack him.

I have had a builder in my house since April and there is no way he would behave like this.
remember you are the customer. you don't need to keep him happy.

I guess I’m trying not to piss him off because I want it finished! But I’m getting increasingly annoyed at the lack of respect now for our stuff I painted a window ledge for them to come along the next day and put their shit on it when I told them not to! It’s now all marked and we have to redo it all

sounds so stressful. did they say they would repair the windowsill?

If not then it shows a real lack of respect. As hard as it may be I would be asking them to clear off.

You poor thing, I have been there very recently. Ours cracked two brand new bath tubs, broke new windows, and have basically left no surface unscathed. In the end they walked off the job! But my god it was a relief. I've got no kitchen but I'll take that over those cowboys in my home.

Ha e you held back any budget?

Osbornemrs · 05/12/2018 08:08

Yes I have the final £6k left to
Pay and if they did walk off or if I threw them out that would cover getting the house finished. Last night I came home to being told our boiler had died, our family bathroom shower not working and a radiator that had been put on the wall but really badly so I’ve told them to take it off and sort it out. There are also new holes in the floor of the loft which was all finished and the electrician had to make a hole
In the wall last night because they boarded the loft and plastered it without pulling his cables through! They have also left a massive stain on the carpet downstairs and I have no idea why they weren’t doing anything there! It’s a joke we take one step
Forwards and two back! I didn’t want to be a moany customer but all I seem to do now is complain about shit day in day out!

They sound awful. My builder has been here for 7 months. the only thing damaged is a small side plate. Its not ok for a builder to be so disrespectful of your home.

We had terrible trouble with builders so I really feel for you. Do you have a clear project plan for how they're going to finish and exactly when each job is going to be done? I suggest you have a project overview meeting in which you make clear that you want it done ASAP and you need to see the plan for how they're going to get there, and that you've been disappointed with the lack of respect they've shown for your home. If it's a big project you should be keeping back c5% of the fee to pay six months after completion when any snagging has been done - if he walks off the project he wouldn't get this.
