Opinions needed for moving day

Would appreciate some opinions on our moving day. DH and I have different opinions... almost posted AIBU!

But if background. Our sale and purchase has been arduous. We sold our house in mid September, and had always planned to go into a. Rental for a month. Our buyer was moving from abroad, it was not going to be possible to make our purchase on the same day. We moved into a rental, two weeks later our purchase fell through. Fast forward we are (hoping to ) exchange next week with a n agreed completion of Monday 17th.
Option A- we move on the Monday. It’s a day our mover can do. I literally can’t wait to leave this rental. It’s tiny. It’s hard work. We haven’t put a tree up cos we’re packing. I don’t want to delay it a moment longer than we have to. I’m sure I could get the day off tho it would be tricky cos of a work related thing. Not impossible but not ideal. DD2 school performance that day- I will have seen it. DH hasn’t so would need to go. We wouldn’t get the keys till 1, so it would feel like a slow start.

Our mover can’t do Tuesday.

Option b, DHs preference. Wednesday. We’d go up mon and tues eve to clean. Take stuff in the big boot of our car. But a tree and Dec up. Mover would move us on Wednesday. He could have an early start.

DH is right isn’t he? But I’m just so impatient. We’ve been waiting for this for literally months. Squeezed into this tiny house it’s been such bloody hard work!!

he's right. If you've been waiting ages to move, two more nights at the rental won't hurt and moving on Monday sounds inconvenient and stressful.

I'd go and see your daughter's school performance and go out for tea after. Then go and clean the new place and put your tree/decorations up on Tuesday and move on Wednesday.

Good luck!

I’d go with option b as well. I understand why you would want to leave the rented place as soon as possible but option a sounds so stressful. 2 extra days would not hurt and you’ll be able to move at your convenience.

Only two responses so far but I knew you were going to say that!
Two more days just feels like forever! The last few months have been very hard. Very.

I’d go for B
But if you really want to get out couldn’t you get a van move just bed and some cooking stuff then wait for your other stuff to turn up on Wednesday.

Trethew · 02/12/2018 22:39

B
And good luck!

Minniemountain · 03/12/2018 10:13

It will feel a lot better once you've exchanged.
Move on Wednesday.

Nearlyadoctor · 03/12/2018 11:47

Go for B - we’re in the same position and fingers crossed will move in on Saturday. Ours has been going on since April, thankfully have been able to extend the rental property. We got the keys on Friday but due to work etc it really wasn’t viable to move this week. Went over at the weekend and cleaned and took some stuff over. Like you I’ve been aware with that for Dd(11) that we can’t really start preparing for Christmas until moved. Was great getting in and hanging curtains etc though

Tobermory · 03/12/2018 22:03

@nearlyadoctor, hope Saturday goes well for you. Move... the straight out to buy a tree?!

You’re right really, so is Mr Tobermory. Hmm I’ve changed to movers to Wednesday and started a cleaning products bag ready for Monday night!

Wednesday.

Why make it more stressful than it needs to be?

Get the keys, celebrate with a glass of champagne, give the place a clean and move in to a lovely new house on Wednesday.

Nearlyadoctor · 04/12/2018 07:04

Thank you @Tobermory -thankfully I’ve now managed to book the whole of next week off so can get straight and at least a bit Christmas ready so to speak.
Good plan on changing the movers it will definitely be less stressful and at least you will have had some time to clean etc prior to unpacking.

Tobermory · 09/12/2018 19:15

@nearlyadoctor, how did your move go yesterday. Are you all in?

We are now completing on Friday and we’ll spend the weekend moving stuff in our car. So we’ll be sleeping there from Saturday Xmas Grin Then have movers booked for Wednesday for the millions of boxes and all the stuff that’s too big for our car.

@Tobermory - yes thanks all in and slowly unpacking. Absolutely exhausted and feel a bit like I’ve been hit by a bus. Haven’t slept for 2 nights, 1 thinking about the logistics of moving and then last night just couldn’t switch off, plus the dog whined all night.
Pleased you now have definite plans and can get in slightly sooner than expected ( if I’ve interpreted you correctly). Are you moving far from where you’ve been renting?

Tobermory · 09/12/2018 23:11

Yes you’re right, we will be moving in earlier though not with all our belongings!
We are not moving far from the rental house that we’ve been staying in, just a few miles.

Good luck - I’ve vowed to never move again, it’s just been so stressful this time. The only good thing with it taking so long was I have already managed to choose colours for when the decorator comes to do the lounge and dining room in JanuaryGrin
Good luck for this weekend Flowers
