Anyone with experience of planning issues?

Our neighbours are planning an extension at the back of their terraced house which will extend to the boundary of our property.

A lot of people have done similar extensions, including us, so no real reason to object except that the plans indicate that a large part of the extension will be designated as a “DJ space and bar.”

As I’m concerned about the amount of noise this implies, do we have any grounds to object at the planning stage?

You can object to as many ‘material planning considerations’ as are applicable to your situation.

You can speak to the planning officer on the application and ask if they can do a your side visit when they come out. This will give you the chance to have them in front of you and you can raise a cautious ‘concern’ about future noise specifically in the location of the extension and the proximity to you.

They may have shot themselves in the foot categorising it as Dj space, but if they got turned down and then reapplied and put dining area on the plan, it’s more likely to be approved, even if they don’t use it as dining space iyswim

Have you spoken to them about how often they see this being used as dj space? What are relations like with them currently?

Thanks cujo. We’ve only just received the planning notice so we’ll raise our concerns with our neighbours and planning officials if necessary , but like you say, they will simply be able to remove the ‘DJ space’ wording and planning will be non the wiser.
I sense the wording could just be a case of architect bullshitery, but why on earth would anyone put that in a family property?
