Do you have one? Does it clean good enough? Does it leave carpets wet with soap residue?

Why not just hire a Rug Doctor from B&Q?

I have a VAX one and it's pretty good. Cost me around £50-60 I think and does a decent job of pulling out black liquid (unbelievable!!). Over time I've found a way to get the carpets a bit more dry. I do 2 full rounds around the whole room hanging water 2-3 times. After this I do one 'dry' round ie no water, so it just sucks up whatever liquid it can from the washed carpet. Then I leave windows open for the rest of the day and the room is usable from the next morning. Worth the money since I can wash my carpets anytime I please and a number of times each year.
