Sofits or open?

I’m struggling to decide whether we should build out sofits above our cabinetry or leave the space open when they install our extractor and over-island lighting. We have tons of storage so that’s not an issue, I’m just looking at it purely from an aesthetic point of view. If you were me what would you do? See attached pics of the kitchen as it is now and a pic of the render they did with the sofits in place.

Definitely open.

I would get the gap above the cabinet filled with a plasterboard ‘wall’ that is flush with the front of the cabinets. So that it looks like part of an original wall and painted the same colour and not like a soffit.
Kind of like it was a made to measure kitchen and the cabinets fit exactly into the space available.

generally the trend is now to take units up to the ceiling but given that you've done it now I'd leave them open (unless you can fit in further cabinets on top)
