I've decided I'd like to change hall stairs and landing paint. How hard will this be to do myself? Am not bothered by a pristine finish! Any tips most welcomed 😊

Plenty of youtube videos out there. The key to painting is preparing the surface. You want to spend just as long smoothing, cleaning and filling the surfaces as painting them.

Try elephants breath as a colour, it's not cheap though, although you can probably find cheaper alternatives than Farrow and Ball.

As previous poster said preparation is the key. Even though you're not after a pristine finish it makes the actual painting easier & just looks better. Fill holes, lightly sand & wipe down. For hallways and landings you need a washable/wipable paint in my opinion, especially if you have children and or pets. Johnstones do a great one and can colour match if you find another brand has the colour you like. I'd avoid elephants breath, it's a bit dark. Skimming stone is lighter, warmer & more modern. But I'd never use f&b due to cost & consistency.

Why does everyone assume the walls are plaster?

Does no-one use lining paper any more?
