Interior Designer - kitchen and soft furnishings and colours

Hi,
Has anyone had a good experience using an interior designer?

We've done the renovation but it just isn't looking 'finished'. We didn't do the kitchen and I need ideas on what to do there plus colours to paint and the right furniture / mirrors / soft furnishings to get.

Ive tried to do it myself but I am just not getting the look I want as its rather expensive trying out different options....

Anyway I would love to hear of any experiences.

thx

I did. Very mixed results. You need deep pockets. I just copy looks from magazines now. They also design a whole look, not just bits of a look, eg accessories.

Kitchen manufacturers have pictures of projects on their web sites. Houzz is great. Even show houses give ideas. Take pictures. I wouldn’t spend the money again.

thanks Bubbles. Yes I imagine it needs to be an interior person that really gets what your style / aims are

John Lewis do a free design service which I used - it was good and I did end up buying the sofa, chair and wallpaper they suggested. It ended up being photographed for a magazine!

I think a couple half got what I wanted and I did like them but the outcomes were very neutral. I like what I’ve got now but as we had a blank canvas for several rooms it was disappointing.

Marmite when did you do yours? Do you think it was the service that made it work for you or the stylist in particular?

Both really but probably more the actual service I think. It was 4years ago and I’ve forgotten the stylist.
