Packing, moving, stuff!!

We don't have a date yet but for various reasons should be moving very soon. We have 3 kids under the age of 5 and for this reason have decided to pay for a packing and moving service. However, my dh is really worried that we are too disorganised. We haven't had time to sell/ sort/ chuck out lots of stuff. We have a huge shed and loft and he thinks the packers will expect things sorted. We live in a 3 bed house and don't have loads of clutter, just 3 kids!
Is he right to panic? Thanks

Yes.

You have to unpack it all when you get there and find somewhere to put it.

MiniMum97 · 19/11/2018 22:58

No don't worry about it. The packers will just pack everything faster than you can possibly imagine. It's just a pain for you as you will need to sort and chuck etc the other end and will have paid for stuff you didn't need to be moved (although if the quote's already been done then you will pay that either way).

I would, however, recommend packing a box or two of anything that is very valuable or of sentimental value ie anything that you can't replace or would struggle to replace if broken, and move this yourself.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Why pay for something and then panic about doing their job for them? We'll do what we can but with 3 little kids and no help it's limited!

Do you want to take the stuff that needs chucking or selling to your new house? We're moving in the new year and we're spending a few hours a weekend clearing our cupboards and taking things to the tip so that packing is easier and it will just be stuff we're keeping.

We're trying! But I can't put the baby down! And we get no time at all without the kids. And the new house has a double detached garage, shed, loft and more rooms... so...

I did do some sorting prior to moving but I also did a lot after. We too were a 3 bed/3dc , the removers did say we were one of their biggest moves of 'stuff'.

Just sort what you can, just 30mins/1 hour a day can help at least get rid of 'rubbish'. DH did a few tip trips of stuff from the shed etc.

The packers won't care, they just pack everything.

In our last move, I got them to stack boxes in the garage according to where they had come from so that only clothes went to bedrooms initially and I sorted from there

BrickByBrick · 20/11/2018 14:40

Yes we put the majority of things into the garage, and sorted from there.

Clothes went straight into the rooms, but it was complicated because we went from a 3 bed (with 2 sharing) to a room of their own.

Thank you all!
