Pullout deck mounted hand shower - do they get grotty?

Trying to find a good bath filler and hand shower setup for our new bath.

The sets where the shower tube retracts into the bath deck look smart but DH says it'll either letting water under the bath or collect stale/stagnant water in the lining. (He is the chief bathroom-cleaner so his worries carry weight here)

Does anyone know if his worries are justified?

Google follow me shower from crosswater (I'm sure other companies offer a similar product) - we have one. The water that would run down is redirected down the waste.
