Utilities etc when you move

Hi. We're due to exchange shortly. I know I need to contact everyone for a change of address. Is there an easy way to do this? And how does it work with utilities? Do you keep on the same companies as the last owners or transfer yours or otherwise? Many thanks for any tips.

Following with interest as we're about to move into a rented property. We haven't moved for 15 years so a bit out of touch!

We took all our utilities with us. Once we had a moving date we called them all up with the date. Very smooth and easy transition. We still went without internet for a few days until BT could get our phone line sorted.

That's reassuring Whirlygig. Thanks

Once you've moved in you just contact the supplier with your details. If the sellers haven't told you who the supplier is, the distributor can tell you from the MPAN numbers on the meters. Here our electricity distributor is ENWL. Just don't sign up to a contract until you've done your research and decided which supplier to go with.

For broadband, it can take a while so contact them as soon as you exchange and have a completion date.

I had a long list of everyone to change addresses with, including how to do it, phone numbers etc.
Some could be done as soon as exchange took place, others not until you moved in
I changed my fuel provider on day of exchange.
Broadband was booked in for the day after completion, and sky the following day.
The harder ones were odd ones like premium bonds
