Hello,
I'm hoping to get a few opinions on the quote I've had for a few gas jobs. I'm in Staffordshire.
When I had an engineer to install my smart meters, he couldn't change the gas meter due to the main bonding pipe needing to be replaced - he couldn't do it himself due to the position of the earth wire.
He told me that getting a gas safe engineer out to do it shouldn't cost more than £60 (he actually said that if someone tried to charge more, they would be trying it on).
So the quote I've had is £60 (because I told him about the advice I'd had from the engineer) but it will be plus materials and the connecting the earth from the new gas pipe to the electric meter will be more. Is this reasonable? The previous engineer seemed to indicate that it would be £60 max for the whole job, but I appreciate the new engineer hasn't seen the job yet so he has to keep things non-committal to ensure he's not left out of pocket.
The other parts of the quote are £75 to install the cooker and £60 for a boiler service, how do these measure up? I feel like the cooker installation is a little high.
Thanks so much for any thoughts, I'm quite out of my depth :)
