Ceiling fixed curtain poles for bay window

I have 2 bay windows with blinds, but I'd like to add curtains for winter.
Because of the position of the blinds I'd need to put the curtain poles on the ceiling.
Do I need to buy special curtain poles and is it doable for a DIY novice? Thanks.

You won't be able to top fix a bypass pole. These are the poles you need for bay windows so the rings will go over (bypass) the fixings.
You will need a top fix track. Silentgliss are the best. You can try and do it yourself with a flexible plastic track, although the bends will be quite shallow.

I got it professionally done using a specialty curtain rail. You need to take into account that the ceiling of the bay may well be more more solid (I think mine is concrete) than further above a window where the curtain rail normally goes so you need a good drill if yours is the same.

Two professionals charged me around £350 (including the curtain rail) to spend around 30 minutes to do it with lots of drilling (and it was a fixed fee so they weren’t stringing it out).

If you think your DIY skills are up to it, you could give it a go. I knew mine definitely weren’t.

Thank you both, one of the bay windows I'm happy to attempt as there is space to fix the pole to the wall, but the other one the previous owners have put the blinds very close to the ceiling so I think it will have to wait a bit longer.

I've done this - fitted a wooden baton to the ceiling (1x4, full width of the bay), painted it white then attached the curtain pole to it with the ring attachments, including one in the middle. It holds heavy interlined curtains no problem but there's a gap at the top so at some point I will get round to fitting a little box pelmet around it.

I ordered bay window poles made to measure from here, for my asymmetrical bay.
www.merrick-day.com/acatalog/19mm_Wrought_Iron_Bay_Window_Pole_Packs_.html
They are metal with passing C rings.
Although m2m, they were about the same price as off the shelf.
Although the pictures show wall fixing and ceiling fixing brackets, mine only came with wall brackets, but I rang them and they sent ceiling brackets at no extra charge. I think I should have specified when I ordered.
I can send pictures by PM you want

The link above is just one example of many on that website - the weight of your curtains will influence which pole is suitable as well as the shape of your bay window (3 sided or 5 sided).
