Hey,
Any mums on here from Ashford? I currently live in south east London and was looking to buy my first family home in Ashford, please can you give me your honest opinions good or bad about the area? Or if you have some suggestions on other locations which are affordable and not too far from London ( I still need to commute for work) please let me know!

Thanks

Molly :)

Which Ashford?
You mention south east, so I assume Kent, rather than Surrey?

Yes the one in Kent, sorry for not being clearer☺️

Not from Ashford but another town in Kent. Ashford has never had the best reputation to be honest I don't think much of it as a town... but they are trying to regenerate the area and the high speed and international station are good perks

I live near Ashford and do my food shop there. I guess it’s like any town - good areas and not so nice. As another Mumsnetter points out, it hasn’t had the best reputation but is being “regenerated”. There is a huge cinema being built in the town - though goodness knows why because there’s Cineworld on a leisure park on the outskirts. Pretty good facilities (indoor shopping centre plus high street shops; sports centre including quite nice pool; cheap gyms and a posh one (John Lloyd?) McArthur Glen “designer” outlet centre and high speed rail link. The latter can be pricey but even the ordinary rail network into London is pretty good. Terrific girls’ grammar and the boys’ grammar is not bad either. Road links pretty good too as a newish network of dual-carriageways takes you around outlying areas. The Sandyhurst Lane area or the nearby village of Westwell would be my pick to live in - though I am less familiar with the east side of the town.
