Help to find a house 170k

Hello - shortly to be divorced and going to have 170k to spend on a house. Don't want/can't afford a mortgage, so am looking to move anywhere in the country really, with decent senior schools for one dc, aged 10 currently. Ideally I'd like 2 (or 3 if I could actually afford it) with a garden and somewhere off road to park the car. Not too rural so that once dc's teenage social life kicks off, it's easier to get to and from friends/cinema etc.

Would love Devon but can't seem to find anything suitable.

Thank you all.

If you come across the bridge to Cornwall, look at Saltash. If you'll compromise to on road parking, you'll get a 3 bed with a garage for that.

Newcastle on Tyne is great - and good value. Lots going on for young people, friendly geordies, 3 hrs to London by train

Seaham in County Durham. It’s very family friendly there. Beaches, lots to do with the kids. You’ll get a decent enough property for £170k.

York, named best place to live 2018.

You don't mention your work in the equation - where does that fit?

Further north you can get 3-4beds in a good area with off road parking, garage, etc for that. Look at west midlands and further north.

Have a look at the Forest of Dean.

Poor DC. Going through parents divorcing and now being dragged away from friends. Don’t do it. It’s not fair. Try and stay local. You won’t get into a decent secondary elsewhere if your DC is year 6 now. Deadlines have passed and you will be a late applicant. I guess it’s not ideal staying where you are but wanting a bigger house and ignoring your child and their friends isn’t the best plan. In my view.
