Shower over bath - glass panel or shower curtain?

Which would you choose? Glass panels never seem to extend out far enough so you end up with a wet floor. But does a shower curtain look a bit crap? Any other suggestions? New bathroom will be grey and white and I would like it to look smart

I agree re the glass panels, but aren't shower curtains very old fashioned? And a bit yuk?

PurpleWithRed · 06/11/2018 18:41

glass panel, shower curtains cling and drip and get mouldy. Get a glass panel and a Karcher to hoover up the water and your bathroom will sparkle like they do in the magazines.

Whyiseveryonesoangry · 06/11/2018 18:42

Glass panel.
I have a shower curtain due to the sloped ceiling. I HATE, HATE, HATE it clinging to me when I shower.

Ohyesiam · 06/11/2018 18:42

My glass panel reaches far enough. Just an ordinary one from Homebase.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 06/11/2018 18:43

Combination of the two? We've got this in our tiny bathroom - I find screens don't keep the water in especially if children are showering.

Si1ver · 06/11/2018 18:43

Glass panel, I hate it when a cold wet shower curtain clings to you mid shower. Shudders

Welshheart · 06/11/2018 18:43

When I had shower over bath in last place & had shower curtain & drove me mad but was all I could afford.. Id go for panel preferably though as Curtains are a right pain & even the anti mould ones get mouldy..Hmm

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 06/11/2018 18:44

Also space it creates is large, so no clingy shower curtain!

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 06/11/2018 18:46

Glass panel.

Pearofwisdom · 06/11/2018 18:48

Glass panel! I can't stand a shower curtain touching me! We got an L shaped bath with glass panel so there is an extra bit of glass at right angle. Not a drop on the wooden floor.

Magpie1976 · 06/11/2018 18:49

Our glass panel fell down minutes after I took the baby out of the bath. I want to cry just thinking how awful it could've been. Now I love my new shower curtain and would never get glass again

Puffinhead · 06/11/2018 18:49

We have both! A small glass panel and then a curtain (it’s designed like that), so best of both. However, I actually prefer a shower curtain - they can be machine washed and updated easily (& cheaply). The screen gets grimy around the edges where the sealant is and I find is a faff to clean. Whatever you decide don’t let the fitter lick his/her fingers and then smooth the sealant (silicon) or you’ll get black mould spots appearing on it months down the line. We did and had to redo them all. Also, make sure your extractor is powerful enough for the type of shower you have (ours wasn’t and so we also got black spots on the walls/ceiling). Sorry, I got side tracked there!

Puffinhead · 06/11/2018 18:51

@schnitzel, yes that’s what we have.

BellMcEnd · 06/11/2018 18:51

I hate glass panels! I think whatever you do they look grubby. We’ve just replaced our bathroom and got rid of the panel. We’ve now got a good quality, weighted white waffle curtain which never clings. I stick it on a hot whites wash every month and it looks ace

DurhamDurham · 06/11/2018 18:52

In our last house we had a glass panel that was longer than average, it folded into four panels and looked great.

I think shower curtains look awful after a while and I shudder when I see ones which are mouldy or discoloured, it seems to spread up from the bottom.

KirstyJC · 06/11/2018 18:56

Not all shower curtains cling, the cheaper more plasticcy ones don't. We put a curtain in our bathroom as I don't know anyone who has a screen that hasn't leaked all over the place and I wanted full width along the bath. Shower curtains are cheap from IKEA and you can just wash them in the machine. I like that I can change the whole look of the room just by getting a different curtain.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 06/11/2018 18:57

Um, you're meant to wash shower curtains regularly. We had the folding panels type screen in a rental house. It leaked everywhere so we demand a replacement. Which also leaked everywhere. Panels also get a bit crusty if your water is hard.

Kamma89 · 06/11/2018 18:57

Glass panel 100%. Folding ones tend to be longer. Agree they can end up a bit grubby around the edges but way easier/nicer to clean that than a mouldy shower curtain!

randomsabreuse · 06/11/2018 19:04

Hate shower curtains, they cling to you in a cold wet and skanky way. If you are in a hard water area Karcher after use with a glass screen.

We have a P Shaped bath with 2 screens making a little cubicle which works well.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 06/11/2018 19:08

Do people really have time to vacuum the shower in the mornings? We're too busy trying to get everyone fed and out of the house.

Bigonesmallone3 · 06/11/2018 19:09

Glass panel, I have a curved one on out P shaped and never had a wet floor problem

redsummershoes · 06/11/2018 19:10

both
panels are never quite big enough

GreenTulips · 06/11/2018 19:12

If you get a glass fixed panel go for taps half way down the bath with a shower attachement for hair washing dog washing and bath cleaning

RaininSummer · 06/11/2018 19:16

I like curtains. Brightens the place up and can be educational... I am currently learning the periodic table when sitting on the loo so that I can astound Jeremy Paxman in Uni Challenge.

Puffinhead · 06/11/2018 19:23

@raininsummer I like your style! Do they make ones with times tables on?! Would be great for the kids.
