Shower over bath - glass panel or shower curtain?

Which would you choose? Glass panels never seem to extend out far enough so you end up with a wet floor. But does a shower curtain look a bit crap? Any other suggestions? New bathroom will be grey and white and I would like it to look smart

Curtain every time. The glass panels always look manky no matter how much you clean them. Also curtains can be replaced regularly as they are so cheap.

Glass panel. We have a rounded bit at the shower end of the bath so we have a curved glass panel. As long as you angle the shower head the right way it doesn't get the floor wet. It is a pain to keep clean as we have extremely hard water, but I still much prefer it to a curtain.

Bigonesmallone3 · 06/11/2018 19:35

Mr muscle shower shine after every use and once or twice a week cleaned with glass cleaner, had ours a year and it's still like brand new!

HermioneWaslib · 06/11/2018 19:39

Just replaced our screen with a curtain and so happy I never have to clean that fucker again. I’d probably feel differently if we had soft water though!

Thewheelsarefallingoff · 06/11/2018 19:42

Curtain. Glass panels look awful after a while and you can easily replace a curtain

brizzledrizzle · 06/11/2018 19:44

glass panel. We have one which extends and the floor never gets wet. It's not any larger than most shower screens. We have a very long and very wide bath; maybe the width helps.

SwedishEdith · 06/11/2018 19:45

I want to dump our 4 panel screen with a curtain. It doesn't leak but it's vile.

RedBlu · 06/11/2018 19:45

Glass panel.

We have a "sail" type from and the floor doesn't get wet

E20mom · 06/11/2018 19:53

Definitely glass panel

Etino · 06/11/2018 20:01

Glass panel.
I’m a dreadful housekeeper but actually maybe I’m not so bad, I’ve started several posts recently this followed by some amazing top tip Grin Get one of these, my screen is spotless.

Folding glass panel. Ours doesn't leak. We use a squeegee after every shower, glass cleaner once a week. Hard water area, but no water marks.

Hate shower curtains, the way they assault you with a cold wet slap on the naked arse!

ILoveMyMonkey · 06/11/2018 20:03

Shower curtain here too. Hate the glass panels as they end up in a wet floor and look filthy due to hard water. We have a fabric curtain which gets washed regularly with the towels so it never looks discoloured or mouldy and I've never had one cling to me either.

Might be worth trying a curtain for a bit and adding a screen at a later date if you don't get on with the curtain.

Haint · 06/11/2018 20:09

I think those who’s curtains cling must have them hung too close in. Ours never ever clings. It’s beautiful (from Anthropologie) and the inner gets bunged in the washing now and then. I’m a convert and much prefer it to a smeary glass panel with gunge in its runner

Glass panel - BUT test it before you install to make sure it covers all the area of spray. Learnt the very hard way!

Furball · 06/11/2018 20:11

These have been mentioned on here before in a very positive way

IsItCoffeeTimeYet · 06/11/2018 20:32

Same as Magpie except my children were still in the bath! I'll never get a glass screen again!

Curtains are much easier and cheaper to keep looking nice in the long term. You learn little tips of what to do so you don't get the annoying cold curtain sticking to you. Mine you have to spray with water first so it sort of suctions on to the inside of the bath, it's fine after that.

I have NEVER seen a (5+ year old) shower screen looking clean all over (usually get limescale and mould in the hinge / bottom seal).

Puffinhead · 06/11/2018 20:34

@raininsummer love it, thanks!

user8905 · 06/11/2018 20:39

Glass panels are a pain if you live in a hard water area - I've never been able to get the ingrained limescale off mine.

Sinead100 · 06/11/2018 20:45

I live in a disgustingly hard water area and have a glass panel that goes half way up the bath, so I stuck a curtain in too. Would rather replace an £8 curtain every so often than deal with a gunged up glass screen...

Si1ver · 06/11/2018 20:52

Last person in the shower that day sprays the panel down with method spray, that stops the limescale and keeps the panel looking good.

SweetPeaPods · 06/11/2018 20:54

Shower curtain easier to keep clean. We had one in last house and I used to just chuck it in washing machine. Easy to change the curtain when decorate or want to brighten up bathroom.
Have glass panel now and I hate cleaning it.

Nitrostormi · 06/11/2018 20:58

I have the small glass panel and curtain that other posters have mentioned. I have been really happy with it.

Lottapianos · 06/11/2018 21:47

Very mixed views, thanks everyone! We have a shower curtain currently and it has never clung to me. Good point about being able to change or clean them regularly.

'If you get a glass fixed panel go for taps half way down the bath with a shower attachement for hair washing dog washing and bath cleaning'

The bath does have taps in the middle, but I want a shower attached to the wall as well. Not sure how easy it would be to add a separate shower, or whether we need to replace bath with one that has taps at the end and add a shower attachment from there

We've had 2 baths with shower curtains for years, don't have a problem with them. I find find that glass screens often aren't long enough to stop water going on the floor, plus they can make cleaning the bath more awkward.
Recently found perfectly nice white, non plasticky, self-stripe ones in Wilko for £6! I keep a spare for when one is in the wash - they wash perfectly,, too..
