Shower over bath - glass panel or shower curtain?

Which would you choose? Glass panels never seem to extend out far enough so you end up with a wet floor. But does a shower curtain look a bit crap? Any other suggestions? New bathroom will be grey and white and I would like it to look smart

I'm biased because my PILs have a shower curtain and it lets water out and wraps itself around me in a cold clammy way. Lots of hotels - same experience.... needs a decent sized bath to work well!

I think I'd go for a curtain, a good quality one that you can wash frequently. You can have ones with plastic curtain inside the bath, with nicer decorative panel on the outside. Much easier to deal with than cleaning glass and the horrible grot off panel tracks. Leave the curtain pulled to its full extent after shower, to drain properly, then pull back when dry. Look on Pinterest.

Where would people recommend for good quality shower curtains?

anthro the us site always has more variety but a limited range available in the uk site

As someone else said if you get one with an inner and outer theoretically if you were handy you could make an outer out of any fabric at all, it just needs 12 button hole type holes along the top.

Glass screens move so you can clean easily. They don’t cling and you can wipe them down more easily. No harbouring of damp. Curtains are never seen in upmarket houses or flats. Never, ever.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 08/11/2018 09:46

"Upmarket" house and flats generally don't have showers over the bath! Some of us live in period houses in expensive cities where space is limited and we have small bathrooms to make the best of.

Tiscold · 08/11/2018 10:55

Glass screen all the way.

Bath taps in the middle.
And then a shower over the bath too. My advice is put the controls for the shower on the opposite side to the shower head (where there isn't the glass screen) so you can set the temp and turn it on and off without getting wet,

Jocasta2018 · 08/11/2018 11:47

After watching Psycho, I’m a glass panel girl all the way...
I keep an old towel in the bathroom and wipe around the tiles and the glass panels - takes a couple of minutes at most. We installed it when we moved in so had got the measurements right and it’s been easy to keep mould-free.
I have ‘inherited’ some in rented flats that were pretty grim tho...

BubblesBuddy · 08/11/2018 12:19

They do have showers over baths in very expensive property in London where space is at a premium. No renovated house or flat has a shower curtain these days if you want to show it off to buyers and achieve a good price. Try looking at any decent housebuilders pictures and you won’t see one. It’s all about presentation and shower curtains are damp, clingy and a turn off.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 08/11/2018 12:31

How house builders display their wares and how people actually live aren't the same though. A pristine shower screen in a brand new bathroom looks lovely. A shower screen encrusted in limescale and a puddle of water on the floor, less so.

'Bath taps in the middle.
And then a shower over the bath too'

Tiscold, the house we're buying has a lovely bath upstairs with taps in the middle but it's only taps, no shower attachment. What's the best way to add a shower over the bath? I thought we might have to rip out the bath and replace it with one that has taps at the end

I don't know im sorry ours came like this and i haven't a clue Grin

I think the shower is seperate and been put on there, so like we've the bath taps and then seperate pipes for the shower? Feck knows Grin

Tiscold · 08/11/2018 15:14

I'd ring a plumber and ask them tbh, or go to a bathroom retail place and ask could you keep the bath and taps but have a shower added somehow?

Also could post on houzz as well as they're bloody helpful.

Lottapianos · 08/11/2018 15:20

You're about as clued up as me then Tiscold Grin

Thanks for the houzz tip, never heard of them

Glass panel looks better.

Shower curtain keeps the water off the floor much better!

On reflection I wish I had got a shower curtain.

RiverTam · 08/11/2018 17:09

Lots of you must have very marris baths if the shower curtain touches you!

I think glass panels can be too small, look grubby if you're in a hard water area and don't scrupulously clean them, and are a bugger when the seal goes )and the seal can look very green.

So shower curtain here. Couldn't carel less what upmarket properties have in them!

flirtygirl · 08/11/2018 18:10

Seals can be bought for less than £5 on ebay, I lived in very hard water area but shower spray and a monthly limescale remover kept my screen pristine. The screen was up 5 years when I sold and people asked if it was new.

Most shower curtain cling and they do look cheap and glass screens come in lots of sizes, so people need to be getting one that is just over half of their baths length, too many buy 700 or 800mm.

brizzledrizzle · 09/11/2018 17:01

A large bath with taps in the middle (and a hand held shower attachment for washing hair in the bath) and then a power shower with rainforest head at the end with a glass screen works well for us. It's bliss as the shower is huge and powerful.

decoratingnightmare · 19/11/2020 18:38

@SchnitzelVonKrumm

Do people really have time to vacuum the shower in the mornings? We're too busy trying to get everyone fed and out of the house.
😂😂😂
decoratingnightmare · 19/11/2020 18:40

We have a folding acrylic panel. It's horrible. Water all over the floor and it never looks clean. Fair enough, I am a crap housewife.

Going back to a washable weighted curtain. Love the idea of changing the look easily.
