Homebuyers survey- how to find someone to do it?

Hi everyone,
We’re buying a three bed semi in a new area and think it might be sensible to do a more thorough survey than just the mortgage survey. Have no idea where to start looking for someone to do it? Thanks

I thought mortgage companies arranged them, if not you need a chartered surveyor presumably.

My solicitor recommended the surveyor to me. He was quite local to the area I was purchasing in.

Maybe ask the estate agents?

Reallymoving.co.uk is helpful

My homebuyers survey is being done at the same time as the mortgage valuation. My broker asked me what I wanted and recommended doing at the same time. It worked out cheaper than having the lender do the valuation then paying someone else to do survey

The estate agent will be able to give you a list of recommended surveyors. Definitely get a proper survey done!

The mortgage co will appoint a surveyor to do a valuation so you can effect "upgrade" if you want and ask them to do the survey. Alternatively your solicitor will have surveyor contacts.

If you want a private survey (independent of the one the bank does), ask your mortgage advisor for a few numbers -- they have lots of connections!
