Can I realign (dropped) UPVC front door myself?

I loathe my front door in every way, but can't afford to replace it at the moment.

It has, I think, dropped on it's hinges. Last night when I came to lock it, the door would shut (therefore single lock as this activates automatically on closing) but I couldn't lift the handle in order to lock it with the key.

I've dug out the right size Allen key but I don't seem to be making any difference by adjusting the fixing on the hinge.

Can anyone talk me through how to do this?

Youtube is your friend here. Many a time I have looked up how to do things on there. This might not be the right video for what you want to do but have a look round as there is bound to be a video of what you want somewhere on Youtube.

Well this is a timely thread, my front door is dipping on the lock side too. The video seems apt. I agree too KittiKat YouTube videos have come in very handy many a time.

Hope the video helps OP. Let us know how you get on.

Off to find the right size Allen key! Smile

Thanks. I'd already watched a few YouTube videos before I asked here, but this video is a bit more helpful. I'm just concerned that if I get the adjustment wrong that it then won't close at all which would present a bigger problem.

Yes, I was worried about that too OP, in fact I got a bit frightened at one point as I couldn't close it Shock but a bit more adjusting and it's great! There was a gap at the top which has gone plus it's much easier to open/close and lock.

Maybe have a go morning time, then if it goes tits up you've got more time to get it sorted before night time.

Yes you can.

Our backdoor dropped earlier this year.

DH tinkered around with it for fucking hours which resulted in it dropping even more than it already had and also kind of leaning in to the house Shock

DH began to plan for his sleeping in the kitchen before a proper door man could get out to us.

It took me about 45 seconds to re-adjust on both fronts. Basically, you just need to make sure you're screwing the right screw (some adjust height, other adjust how far the door "leans").

If you do make it worse, you can easily just undo what you've done.

Seriously, I am absolutely shit at anything DIY-related but this was a piece of piss.
