building regs not met

Hi,
we had our loft converted by a reputable company a number of months ago, we haven't received a building regs certificate so i contacted them and there are a number of points that weren't met at the final inspection.
we (stupidly) paid them all their money when they supposedly finished (was having a baby & not thinking straight) and they have been bloody awful with snagging (actually, they damaged the house which we discovered after we paid them & it took ages to getit fixed, and it isn't completely fixed) and now barely answer emails
We have legal expenses cover on our house insurance-is it likely to cover chasing them up on this?

obviously we will give them a chance to rectify stuff first before we do, i think most of the stuff has been done now, but obviously they haven't bothered to get the reinspection done.

Legal insurance seems very hit and miss, they will usually not take on a case unless they feel they can win. You can send a warning yourself informing them that unless rectified you will have no choice but to investigate all legal options that are available to you. Probably cheaper than your excess. The only time I needed it my house legal insurance was crap but my union protection was great.

a simple email saying they need to rectify this before you write their reviews on all of the local and national review sites

Are they trade members with a governing body ? Can you talk to the governing body , NHBA NFB, HBF, FMB or such like ? These people are there to help

What needs to be done to get it passed ?

Go and see them talk face to face ? If they are genuine they should help you

Thanks, I am so tempted to threaten a bad review, and just kicking myself i ever gave them the final payment.
I think there is only 1 thing that needs to be changed (soil pipe needs to be higher as far as I can make out) that they haven't done, but they need to get their arses in gear to sort it. How long is there to get the buildingcontrol inspection done? (Its a private BC rather than council if that makes any difference?)
