Hi we are planning to retire to south norfolk or suffolk in the next 2/3 years and just wondering what framlingham is like to live in? I know its spoken of highly, very pretty with castle etc - our problem is that DH doesnt drive for medical reasons so when we do move it needs to be somewhere with enough going on in the town for him to get to without having to rely on me. Also if we did need to access london what is the reality of getting to the nearest train (saxmundham?) and changing at ipswich? And advice appreciated - we are mid 60s.

I live on the outskirts of a small village about 7 miles from Fram, and although I have considered Fram for when we retire, I think Woodbridge would be better. From Woodbridge there is an occasional direct through train to London but regular trains to Ipswich where you change to the main Norwich to London line. Also more buses.

Fram is a lovely little town (the nearest town to me) but I think you would have to drive to Saxmundham to get the train (and might be quicker just driving to Woodbridge or even to Ipswich, to get the direct London trains)

Woodbridge has a greater range of shops, a cinema/theatre etc and more in general going on than Framlingham.

Fram and Woodbridge are good in that its an easy drive to the coast (Aldeburgh/Thorpeness etc), again I think there are buses from Woodbridge to Aldeburgh but not sure about from Fram.

Bury St Edmunds is lovely, bigger town yet again with even more going on, but the train links to London are not so good. You either have to get a train to Ipswich or Cambridge.

Felixstowe is by the sea, get train to Ipswich, then.direct to London
