Help. Washing machine died after threatening to for ages. Turned off blue valve under sink, disconnected old machine and connected new one in its place. When I turned the blue water inlet valve under sink back on it immediately started to run water into machine which wasn't even turned on. Help!

well that's very strange. All the washers I've seen have an electrically operated valve which only opens when the machine puts a current through it. There might be a momentary flow while the pipe fills up.

Sometimes on an old machine the valve might fail, say if it is clogged with scale or grit from the waterpipes, but that would usually just be a drip.

Are you sure that water is running into the drum, and not squirting out of a leak in the machine inside the casing and running onto the floor?

Unplug it from the mains and see if it takes in water. If it does it is faulty and you should complain to whoever you bought it from.
