Looking for inexpensive flooring option

The carpet in my room is over 30 years old. I'm toying with the idea of of ripping up the carpet. I'm on a budget for a replacement floor. I'm looking at the idea of carpet tiles or vinyl tiles or vinyl planks. Something that I could manage laying myself. Any ideas. Thanks

We have recently fitted wood plank effect sheet vinyl all through our living areas. It looks great. I would go for that if I was you.We looked at all the really expensive luxury vinyl products and didn't like the look of any of them. This was just over a tenth of the price! You could easily fit it yourself too if you are a bit handy.

Where did you get that from Sprig? Looking for the same thing!

We used a local independent flooring company. There were a couple to choose from and we had to shop around a bit to find a wood effect vinyl that looked decent but there seem to be lots more good ones now than when I was first looking a few years ago. I always go for a company who employ their own fitters directly. They tend to have more of a vested interest in doing a good job and also there is an established chain of command for if you have any issues that need escalating.

I got super-cheap carpet from an 'end' at a carpet shop when I needed the absolute cheapest flouring. Was something like £4/sq m and was the type that doesn't need underlay which keeps costs down.

Obviously this is not as nice as more expensive carpet + underlay.

I got an independent carpet fitter to fit it, wasn't much.
