Dormer or not?

We are going to be buying a 1930s semi and will need to convert the loft. The question is whether it needs a dormer or not. Around the estate there is a mixture of velux only, side dormer plus velux and side and back dormers. Can anyone who has converted please advise whether the dormer is worth the extra cost?

Looks like it would be very small without a dormer. Are you sure there's enough height for a conversion? Looks very similar to my house (ex.LA semi) and we definitely don't have the height for a conversion. Others have done it but by dropping the first floor ceilings.

You need to work out dimensions for with and without the dormer and then weigh that up against your finances.

Maybe it's not a great picture, it is a huge loft. I will find a picture of one with a side dormer...
