Perusing Rightmove atm. Does anyone know what this little window low down by the front door could be? There is no mention on the description, no cellar etc. From the floor plan it looks like it is under the stairs.

What is this window?

It looks like a dog flap but that would make no sense as it goes straight onto the front drive!

Spankyoumuchly · 21/10/2018 18:04

Maybe for natural light in the cupboard under the stairs?
Catflap?

If you go into google streetview you can see more of the nearby houses seem to have them. Do you think it might be for access to the service meters?

BaronessBomburst · 21/10/2018 18:07

Placemarking as I'm intrigued!

I’d guess there is a cellar that isn’t on the floor plan.

Do all the houses on the street have them?

CarryOnScreamingValenta · 21/10/2018 18:13

It might be a 'cellar head' - steps down into a small space you can stand up in, but not a full cellar. I lived in a house that had one once. Useful place to keep the vacuum cleaner and similar. The meters and the fuse box were down there.

I note chimney
Was the house ever coal fired?
Below stairs type coal cellar thing?
As others have said the window provides cellar source of light
Not full size cellar but coal store latter used as storage.

Looks like its to let light into under stairs cupboard, checked the floor plan on Zoopla

Is the building on a hill?

Might be a split level of some kind. Perhaps a passage under there or place for bikes.

There are a lot of chimneys so it must once have had a coal store, though I have a feeling it would more likely have been in the back garden.
