Lost out on house

We've had our house on the market about 6 weeks, accepted an offer yesterday and put an offer in on a house we fell in love with... but just found out it's gone to buyers with nothing to sell.

I'm totally gutted as it was our dream home. I am trying to be philosophical and think it wasn't meant to be / something else will come along... ugh. I really hate this whole process.

Anyone got any stories of missing out but then finding something even better?!

Hi, sorry to hear about you missing out on the house. When we were house hunting we couldn't find anything affordable in the area we wanted so looked at other areas. We bid on a few really nice houses with a compromise of different area and still missed out which was disheartening. We gave up looking and got a call from an EA about a house in the area we wanted which met all our needs. We weren't keen as we expected to be again outbid but went to see it anyway. Selling couple were lovely and really liked us and we managed to get it. In hindsight now glad we didn't get any of the other houses as commuting would have been a pain, especially over winter. I think patience and timing is key with these things. Probably sadly an element of luck as well. Other houses will come up though.
Don't be disheartened, it's all part of process and makes you realise what is and isn't important in buying a new home. Good luck

We wanted to be in a particular primary school catchment when we moved - best school in the area etc Found a perfect house to buy but we got the offer on our house a day or two too late and it was already under offer to a FTB so no chance for us. We ended up moving slightly further away. When it came time to apply to local schools for DS1, I visited the amazing school (that we were now just out of catchment for) and hated it. Loved local village school. So so glad we didn't get that house and I didn't have to send my child to that school, as it wouldn't have suited him at all.

Oh I'm sure something better will come along. We missed out on some lovely houses, but if we'd ended up buying them we wouldn't have the amazing house we live in now. Honestly, what's for you doesn't go by you.

Thanks everyone, it really helps to hear these stories!

I guess if it's meant to be maybe something will go with the current buyer, and if not then it's just not the one for us.

It doesn't help they nothing seems to be coming on the market at the moment!

Our chain broke a year ago. We put our house back on the market but couldn't sell so we lost the house we were buying in February. Eventually, we got a buyer in August when there was nothing else we were interested in available. We decided to revisit the newbuild development a few miles away we had previously ruled out, found a perfect plot & are waiting for it all to go through, fingers crossed! I'm not sorry about the other house. This one is in a much better locality in a brand new village instead of in a tiny cul de sac behind a dual carriageway overlooking a social club, which I was never entirely happy with. Things have turned out for the best, apart from what will end up being a 2-year process in the end!

We recently missed out on a house that was in a perfect location as cash buyers to a buy to let buyer who needed finance. We offered the same amount Confused

Anyway dh started looking at other houses and saw what a small amount more could get us and we agreed we were glad we were unsuccessful after all!

The agent rang me that day to say the BTL buyers finance fell through, do we want to make an offer.

We didn't, and are currently waiting to make an offer on an amazing house, that I'm convinced we'll miss out on too though.
