Is this sofa nice?

Is this nice? I'm looking at it in Baltic velvet. I live in a Victorian terrace with high ceilings if that makes a difference.

Link doesn’t work OP

HollowTalk · 14/10/2018 17:12

Here's the link

Which colour would you go for?

Mercurial123 · 14/10/2018 17:14

HollowTalk thanks for sorting the link out. I'm looking at velvet in Baltic or a deep blue.

I can see what they're trying to do style-wise but it's not enough IYSWIM. It still looks a bit of an OAP's choice to me.

Haberpop · 14/10/2018 17:16

It looks like a sofa to sit upright on rather than relax in.

DolorestheNewt · 14/10/2018 17:17

Not one for me, I'm afraid. It's 30s-inspired, but they've exaggerated something horribly, so it has lost any chic. it might have had. Worst of all, it's on blocky horrid feet. Would look better with four short tapering legs, more like this one www.knightsbridge-furniture.co.uk/product/lugano-3-seater-settee-fluted-back/

HollowTalk · 14/10/2018 17:17

It looks like an older person's sofa, OP, though I do really like velvet sofas. It looks like it would be good to sit and read on it. Less good to lounge around watching a film, though.

SputnikBear · 14/10/2018 17:19

Not a fan, sorry. It’s a mush mash of styles. A bit Art Deco but the blocky legs spoil it. Have a look at Made.com they do similar but with better legs.

LizzieBennettDarcy · 14/10/2018 17:22

It's very upright OP, and has low arms. But if that's what you're looking for, then go for it. I like the look.

My other comment would be to get a sample of the velvet before buying so you can see if the pile crushes. We spent well over £100 a metre on a Zoffany velvet to make our bed/headboard in and it's crushed horribly..... it looks so bad that it needs replacing after 3 years and it cost a small fortune Shock

flumpybear · 14/10/2018 17:22

Not my taste! I tend to look at arighi bianchi if you're close enough (Macclesfield) as it's fantastic and loads of different tastes - some awful and some amazing - being enormous yo can spend the day there plus they have a cafe Wink

Mercurial123 · 14/10/2018 17:23

OAP choice exactly! I can see now why I was 50/50 about it. It looks comfortable but too sensible. The Knightsbrige Furniture sofa is lovely but probably too expensive.

Hope this link works, this was also a contender. My living room is tiny and I'm tall so my sofa wouldn't be really for lounging. These are in the compact section.

Much prefer the second one, in Baltic blue.
I agree the first one was very OAP, and I’m probably older than most of the posters😆

lll77 · 14/10/2018 18:20

I like it! But it is quite a definite look and has the potential to look a bit frumpy depending on the style of your other furniture and house.

I agree about the legs looking wrong and I'd be tempted to change them, but then I'd be a bit annoyed at having to do that on a sofa that cost well over a grand.

daro · 14/10/2018 19:41

I love the second one

heartofgold · 14/10/2018 19:43

waiting room sofa (nhs)

sbplanet · 14/10/2018 19:56

Do you like it?

I think it's pretty cool, but do you have the furniture and house style to go with it? Not sure about the blue fabric though. Can you chose to provide your own fabric?

This is fun!

Mercurial123 · 15/10/2018 05:15

Thanks everyone it's a no it has definitely got the OAP vibe there's nothing wrong with that I may come back to it in twenty years time..... I'll probably go for my second choice.

CutesyUserName · 15/10/2018 07:34

Glad you've decided against it @Mercurial. A friend has very similar sofas, which she loves, but they are horribly unyielding and uncomfortable and her living room resembles an OAP home 'lounge' (in my opinion, of course).

PETRONELLAS · 15/10/2018 07:38

Love an oap vibe myself but don’t like the bottom of that. Definitely a mismatch. I love the high back and wing!

Mercurial123 · 15/10/2018 09:01

I did love the high back myself but it's kind of ugly.....
This had a high back but once again there's something not quite right....

The second one is not one you are going to be relaxing in either. Look how low the back is. You really need to sit on these sofas to see how they are/are not going to work.
