Why do people happily come round to take a look at a job but never send the quote or get in touch again?

They’re all, “great - I’ll get the quote to you in a few days”. And then two weeks later: still nothing!

Failure of organisation skills. "Man and a van" types tend to be great at doing the actual work, but incredibly lousy at doing the paperwork - and lousy at scheduling too, so they're probably running around trying to appease a bunch of current clients that they've overbooked and have no time to go back and sort your quote out.

Annoying, isn't it? But that's what causes the price difference you get if you call in a company instead, they hire office staff to sort those things out. You get what you pay for.

I always text them after a week or so - anything much beyond that and they're too embarrassed at their own failure to ever talk to you again. Two weeks is probably too long.

They don't want to do it! Either the job's too big, too small, not worth it or they're too busy.
