Decorate hall and stairs or new stairs carpet? Trying to work out which will be least disruptive/likely to lead to damage to either walls or carpet...

IMO as we've renovated a house, paint first then flooring after. No one wants paint on new flooring no matter how careful you are

Yup, walls then floor. And the decorating can be messy as it won’t matter (paint splatters on the old floor).

Order your carpets. Rip up old ones before deliver date and redecorate. Otherwise your carpets can be different heights and you’ll have an unsightly line in your skirting so I’m told by a friend, ahem

Paint first for sure. Not only is it far easier and less stressful as you don't need to worry about spillage, you can then choose the colour appropriate to what the final shade of the hallway is.

Paint first. The carpet fitter I use advises painting skirting a couple of weeks before new floor is fitted so the paint can harden, any scuffs can be touched in after
