Would you buy a house without a bath?

Dh wants to rip out the bath & just have a nice big shower room, but I’m not convinced - at the moment we have a shower but it’s just one of those above the bath thingies. Another issue is we might sell up in 10 years when youngest flown the nest, so don’t want to do anything that might make house hard to sell.

Thank you.

I’m really surprised at all the posters saying you’ll need to redo a bathroom every tens years anyway - surely bathroom fittings and fixtures are made to last longer than that!

Yes bathrooms are made to last longer but fashion changes mean that in 10years it will look "dated" - no matter how hard you try to use timeless pieces they still date.

I've bought a doer upper, the bathroom is in brilliant condition (now it's cleaned) but it is approximately 20years old and thus considered a extremely dated style (even though it's a white suite with neutral tiles).

The rental I'm just about to move out of, has a bathroom less than 10 years old and despite the fact that the landlord clearly tried to use options that would be timeless, it now looks dated.

Yes I love soaking in the bath, I find it really relaxing which is why I don’t want to rip it out. We’ll come to a compromise I’m sure!

Yes, I’m not into baths and would prefer a good shower (I.e NOT an over-bath arrangement).

Put ‘room for bath’ in the details if you sell.

thecatsthecats · 07/10/2018 12:27

Wait, YOU want to use a bath?

Then this whole conversation is pointless. No, don't live for ten years without a bath just because your husband doesn't want one!

For my advice on that issue... We have a large corner bath with shower over. Would you be able to fit something like that? It's masses of space for a shower (I hate small showers), and a good size bath too.

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 07/10/2018 13:40

Wait, you actually love a bath and don’t want to rip it out, this is just to appease your DH?! Then definitely do not! Why should you have to go without a relaxing bath for 10 years just so he doesn’t have to step over the tub to shower? You implied you were on the same page regarding the bathroom and were just worried about resale!!

PillowOfSociety · 07/10/2018 15:02

X posted!
If you want a bath, keep the bath!

Can you re-model and fit both? Put a shower elsewhere?

So why is this even being asked ? Confused

You are one half of the couple, and you love a bath. So, as a couple, you need a bath. Can't now understand the point of this thread. I, presumably like most people who have replied, presumed neither of you liked having a bath.

No

RossPoldarkfan · 07/10/2018 19:12

I had a bath put back in my house to help sell it. However, I never use a bath and would be happy to buy a house without. In fact I would much prefer just a shower cubicle than a shower over a bath.

Lweji · 07/10/2018 19:12

Install instead a jacuzzi style bath, with a proper shower.

You like baths, end of discussion.

WellTidy · 07/10/2018 19:15

No. When we rent holiday houses for just a week in the summer, I insist on one with a bath. I find a bath really relaxing, and the DSs have a bath every night (same water).

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 07/10/2018 19:15

Absolutely not. I love s good relaxing soak

KinderBueno5 · 07/10/2018 19:30

No but I would when DC are older.

LittleBLUEsmurfHouse · 07/10/2018 19:59

If you like a bath and he likes a shower then the only compromise is shower over bath or find a way of fitting both seperate bath (or soaking tub) and shower cubicle in the room.

I think it's really selfish of your DH to want to remove the bath when you use it!
