Made an offer but not heard anything

Hi made an offer on a house on Monday. Haven't heard back from the estate agents. Chased them today and they said they are still waiting to hear from the owner. I'm suspicious that they may still be showing people round to get a better offer does this happen or am I too anxious??

Ring them back and let them know if you haven't heard back by X date, your offer will be rescinded. So put an expiry date on it. The vendors may be considering it. Our vendors made us wait for two weeks for a decision on our revised offer.

You can say you need to know because you need to keep on looking if it's a no.

The owners probably are still showing people around. Your offer obviously wasn’t quite what they are looking for but enough for them not to reject it outright. As above best thing to do is to put an expiry date on it.

It is the owner that makes the decision, though. Not hearing back implies (to me) that the offer has not been accepted (was it a lot lower than the asking price?)

I'd keep looking around for now, good luck with the search.

Thanks all. The estate agent has just called seemed genuine and said owners away and can't get hold of them and that he thinks I have a great offer and will recommend they accept. I am in the situation of the best house in a poor street not a bad one but it's a 5 bed detached in a street of terraced and very expensive but I love it so fingers crossed!
