Induction hobs - are they all noisy?

We're in the process of choosing appliances for our new kitchen and DH wants an induction hob, which I've read are noisy. Does anyone know if it's possible to get one which doesn't beep and buzz loudly? Our budget is £400 - £600 ish. Any input would be most gratefully received!

Mine beeps when it turns on and off, but it's very quiet beyond that. You can hear a slight buzz if you listen very hard, but that's overshadowed by the noise of the pans bubbling away, it's a total non issue. Mine is this one, complete bargain

Mine is silent. Rangemaster.

Broselug · 04/10/2018 07:24

Ours is part of our range cooker, only makes a minimal buzz when cooking and that seems to vary depending on the pan being used.
MIL has a howdens induction job which is slightly noisier but not drastically.
Having previously sworn by gas hob I wouldn't now swap my induction.
See if you can view one in operation before you buy if possible?

Prestonsflowers · 04/10/2018 07:28

I have an induction hob, I bought a new set of saucepans to use on it and it was incredibly noisy, the pans were supposed to be for use on an induction hob. I was able to change the pans for a more expensive set and now it is not noisy at all.
I hate my induction hob and I wish I had stuck with a gas hob
Sorry, not much help to you!

PeridotCricket · 04/10/2018 07:29

Ours is quiet but beeps at you if you move a pan over the controls. Can’t hear a buzz over cooking noises.

QuitMoaning · 04/10/2018 07:29

I have a Gorenje by Starck. It has a few beeps but they are welcome and not intrusive.
Also if I have all rings on very high then it whines a bit but, again, not intrusive.
I had to use gas on holiday, it was tough. So glad to get back to my induction. I am always flummoxed when people say they prefer gas.

Baxdream · 04/10/2018 08:02

I have a caple induction. It has a very slight buzz if you put your ear near it.
However my dog thinks it's the devil and refuses to go in the kitchen when it's on. I love it though!

Lynne1Cat · 04/10/2018 08:16

Mine is silent. Electrolux.

Rosita · 04/10/2018 09:06

Don’t know but I’m also in the process of trying to choose one. For what it’s worth, I quizzed the man in the shop extensively about this the other day and it doesn’t seem to be much of an issue except with certain models. Noise of bubbling drowns it out etc. Your budget is similar to mine. He showed me the controls on AEG, Bosch and Neff (my choices) and AEG definitely seem most user friendly. I want one which has flexible cooking zones so you put really big or strange shaped pans on.

Egg · 04/10/2018 09:08

Ours is Neff and I love it. Beeps when you turn it on etc but otherwise it’s silent.

CountessVonBoobs · 04/10/2018 09:11

Well mine beeps when you change settings, but I don't find that in any way a drawback...? If there isn't a pan on it when you turn it on, there's a barely audible buzz but it's drowned out once you start cooking. I wouldn't go back to gas.

serbska · 04/10/2018 09:18

Love love love love love induction

Beeps when I turn it on and off and when change temperature but I don’t find that an issue. Also beeps if you leave a pan on when it’s hot after you turn it off.

No buzzing that I can hear. Pans boiling are more noisy!

Gweidjen · 04/10/2018 10:02

Massive thanks to everyone for your responses. It's so helpful to have first hand reports :-)

No, not noisy at all. Ive used smeg and aeg

TheSpottedZebra · 04/10/2018 21:35

Mine too beeps when you turn it on or off, and there is a very quiet hum, but yes, a bubbling or sizzling pan would more than drown it out.

TheSpottedZebra · 04/10/2018 21:36

.... and it's a hotpoint one. Not expensive.
I LOVE it - so quick and easy to use, and so clean.

bobkate · 04/10/2018 21:44

rosita which AEG model have you chosen?

Rosita · 05/10/2018 09:49

I think I’m going to go for the IKE64441FB but there are several others which seem virtually identical.

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 05/10/2018 09:58

Ours was really cheap - a plug and play model so no special wiring needed. It did make a noise.

However, compared to the grief of cleaning our current gas hob I’d have endured it playing call waiting music for ease of cleaning.

It did struggle with all rings on high - with hindsight and if I was a more enthusiastic cook I’d have gotten a more powerful model.

I’m not sure if pan quality made a difference. I tended to notice it most boiling big pans of water for pasta.

Deliphant · 05/10/2018 10:09

Mine is pretty silent - makes a very slight whirr but you overhead filter drowns that out if you have that on.

It's a Bosch, over 10 yrs old and works very well, very easy to clean, turns off on it's own if you take the pan off it - so can't accidentally leave it on.

Can be a bit of a pain finding pans that are indiction compatible.

NorthernSpirit · 05/10/2018 10:27

I have a large Hotpoint. It beaps when you turn a ring in and off but doesn’t make any noise.

I’d had gas always and was weary of changing. God I love it. So easy to keep clean and it looks fab.

haggisaggis · 05/10/2018 10:33

I have an AEG - one of the cheaper versions.
You can hear it when it is on the higherst power setting - it makes a buzzing noise - but you only use that to quickly get stuff to the boil so it's not for long. It does beep when you switch it on or when you put something on it that shouldn't be there , or when the cat walks on it. It also beeps if you touch it to clean it but it's just one beep.
I love mine - it's so quick! Only downside I have is that if you drip something on it when it's on - like lifting a pan lid so it drips - it will switch itself off until it's been dried. This can be a pain if you haven't noticed..but on balance would not be without it.

Dickybow321 · 05/10/2018 11:16

However, compared to the grief of cleaning our current gas hob I’d have endured it playing call waiting music for ease of cleaning.

Haha, I hear you. Cleaning my gas hob was really getting me down. The induction hob takes seconds to wipe down and always looks pristine.

I think people don't understand the difference between induction hobs and those old fashioned ceramic ones. When I was selling my house this time I was trying to explain and the people were like yeah, yeah OK. I was like Hmm. Will serve them right when their pans don't work on it.

LagoDiComo · 06/10/2018 10:27

Mine clicks a bit when you first turn it on but doesn’t buzz. Hotpoint and the best thing we got for our kitchen after boiling water tap

BrokenWing · 06/10/2018 10:44

We have a 6 year old bosch. It beeps when using the controls. Lately it buzzes a little at the highest boost setting. But I only use that when boiling water and it is quieter than a kettle. Love my induction.
