New front door

We recently moved in to your new house - and I want to change the front door.

It is currently timber with glass panels. I would like something which feels more secure.

Previous house we had new doors - which were just the standard composite doors supplied along with a houseful of windows. They seemed sturdy enough.

I have also been looking into Rockdoor. They say that they are more secure.

Does anyone have one of these? Or know anything about doors? The prices seem quite similar which leads me to think that there isn't that much difference.

The designs for the Rockdoor are more modern - there is one I actually really like.

The other company is one we have used before. It's a local firm - any issues and they came out straightaway to fix them.

Choices...

how old is the house?

How thick are the timbers between the panes of glass?

This is the door.

I fancy something in the style of the grey door

Oh - it's a 60s build.

thanks

I was thinking it might benefit from a door in keeping with the period, bur AFAIK 1960's had flush ply doors and glass so the one you like is probably not jarring.

If (like me) you prefer a 5-lever lock, these are available as a multipoint system, the ERA Vectis plus. There are certain weaknesses to the Eurocylinder.

You may be able to specify a laminated glass DG unit, which is burglar-resistant. Have the letterbox well away from the lock and handle since there are techniques to reach through.

We have a Rock door. I flipping love it! It feels really secure and looks great.

We have a Solidor. All the research I did suggested this company or Rockdoor. Love ours. Feels completely secure (ours was purchased after burglary).

Thanks for all replies. Especially pigletjohn's technical help. There are so many different locking systems - hard to know which is the best.

I have had a quote for a Rockdoor - it was only about the same as a composite from a local window and door company. I read some bad reviews though which did put me off.

Also have heard of Solidor.

I think part of my issue is that I haven't just seen one that is just right.
New house and I know we will want to change the windows at some point (but there are lots and they are large).

I'll keep looking Grin
