Who to ask for update on chain?

We're in a chain of 3 houses, so 4 parties, and we are second from top. I want an update on how things are going further down the chain, are there any issues or delays etc.

Should I ask my estate agent or solicitor?

I'm new to house buying and selling, when we bought our house we bought the house we were renting so everything was simple!

Thanks!

Estate agent

I always asked my solicitor directly, the EA is just a go between.

My estate agent did most of the chasing (and it was a chain of 8 to start with!) - solicitors only really dealt with my buyers. Both my house and the one I was buying were on with the same EA so guess commission-wise they had an incentive to make sure things were moving.

I've recently moved, we were third in a chain of 4. It dragged on far longer than was necessary. I used the EA mostly to keep on top of the chain (who we sold with, and were also buying with) but also called the solicitor if needed. I found the solicitor generally got me a straighter answer!
