Mortgage Retention advice

Bought a property earlier this year with a £500 retention to replace the guttering as it was causing damp in the front bedroom.

I have had two tradesmen out to quote for the work and both have said that the gutter is fine and just needs to be unblocked and for one end to be raised as currently the water does not flow down the downpipe. I paid £40 for this to be done. Both have said not to replace the guttering as it isn't leaking and it is the original lead gutter; both have said that this is more hardwearing than a plastic replacement.

Therefore if I contact the mortgage lender will they be likely to release the funds even though I haven't replaced the gutter? I had to borrow this from family to cover the purchase and they would obviously like it back.

Does anyone have any experience?
