Large space behind loft conversion

I’m renting a Victorian mid-Terrace that has a loft conversion which is a small bedroom. I’m friendly with most of the neighbours and everyone else has an en-suite as well as a fair sized bedroom. My house is the only one that appears to cut off halfway in the loft. The back wall sounds hollow and it seems there is pipes in there (shown through mould circles in winter). My neighbour also gained access to this bit of my house when they had their roof replaced and I’m not sure how or why? Not on speaking terms with them so not asked them yet.

I’m starting to wonder if their house goes into mine somehow as I hear noises back there sometimes. I’m just so confused. What could be in there and how is maintained if there is no access from this house?Confused

Next door may have a flying freehold on part of the roofspace i.e. a room which is essentially above rooms in your house.
Can you ask your landlord, just tell them you are curious!
